Usually the area for the driveway is dug out first, to the correct specifications and depth. The depth of the driveway depends on the usage, for example, a road/motorway has a terrific amount of traffic using it so needs to be really deep whereas a driveway in contrast has only very light usage driving and parking on the surface so needs to be adequate but not overkill!
The ground is levelled and compacted. Edgings and any drainage channels laid. Install a membrane to help prevent weed growth. A sub-base (hardcore) is laid and compacted. The tarmacadam is laid and compacted with a heavy roller.
After installing a tarmacadam driveway, it is best to let it dry before use. It can dry quickly and harden in approximately 5 to 8 hours, depending on the weather conditions. The surface is best left for approximately 3 days to allow it to fully set and avoid any damage.
Tarmacadam is renown for its durability and smooth surface.
